Roman Chamomile Essential Oil


In herbal inhalation therapy, Roman chamomile is used in steam baths for sinus inflammation, hay fever, pharyngeal swelling, and ear inflammation.

Topically, Roman chamomile is used for inflammation and as an antiseptic in ointments, creams, and gels to treat cracked nipples, sore gums, and irritation of the skin and mucosa. It is also used topically for wounds, burns, eczema, frostbite, diaper rash, decubitus ulcers, and haemorrhoids.

Roman chamomile essential oil has insufficient reliable evidence to rate as a treatment for any health issue.

Adverse Reactions

Roman chamomile is generally well tolerated by most healthy adults. Orally, large amounts of Roman chamomile might cause vomiting.
Topically, Roman chamomile can cause contact dermatitis.  Allergic skin reactions can occur in up to 20% of individuals.
